June - A Couple Summer Weeks at Home

The boys are out of school. We are getting ready to leave for the summer and we are having a blast together. We haven't really been sleeping in because Logan was going to a special summer school reading program for a couple of weeks but we are staying up late and making the most of it in the heat.
The boys had good grades on their report cards so we took them to Hayashi for a special dinner.
Lincoln was rockin it on his scouts belt loops.
This was Lincoln at June pack meeting learning about American Indian traditions.

What a stud!
We saw Wonder Woman as a family activity one night.
We hosted an Elders Quorum and High Priest church activity at our house. We barbecued burgers and hot dogs and had a ton of food. We visited, played corn hole, some people swam and Ricky served rootbeer floats to the ladies.

We went to two birthday parties at Chuck E Cheeses.

May Misc.

A lot happened in May. The boys finished up the school year. I had several work trips. Ricky and I celebrated our 14th anniversary. Here are a few other moments we captured.

The boys and I hit a few movies over the course of the month and this was a funny one.
Brothers are best friends and they like when they match.

Utah Trip - Part 3

Memorial Day was jam packed with activities for the day.  We started the morning off at the Heber Valley Railroad with a ride on the Heber Creeper. It was Wild West Day so there were shoot outs and black and white pictures happening at the station. We actually had a heist on the train ride too before they got the gold back and we all got chocolate coins.

The afternoon was spent out on the trails in the mountains on a four wheel razor. It was quite the adventure and not my favorite thing. We packed some sandwiches and had lunch at a little stopping area but we were covered in dirt, it was hot and we were getting sunburned. The boys like the crazy angles and going fast. I liked going at a reasonable pace on flat surfaces. I may have been the party pooper on this one but my heart couldn't take the idea of us tipping over and one of the boys getting hurt. That may be a "boys only" activity next time. They loved it.

We found a fun hamburger joint in town that featured trains so we went there for dinner. They food was decent and the ice cream was delicious. Most importantly Logan was happy because he got to watch trains go around the dining room as we ate.

Tuesday, the next morning, was a day to sleep in, then we grabbed breakfast at a local breakfast spot. We got to eat outside because the weather was beautiful. That is a treat for us because Ricky doesn't typically like to eat outside. Food was delicious and it was just what we needed before heading to the airport. On the way to the airport we stopped at the Winter Olympics Training Park in Park City. It was a short stop but we got to see a few people jumping.

It was such a great trip. It was something that was planned for one reason but turned out to be something far more than what we anticipated. It was short but packed with fun memories. I love traveling with this little family of mine!

Utah Trip - Part 2

After spending a couple of days with extended family, it was time for our little family to get away and  create some fun memories together. We headed to the small town of Heber, UT to stay at the Homestead Resort. It was a couple of days to be together, be adventurous and also relax. We had extra time to kill before we could check in so on our way to the resort we found a memorial and went to check it out. Our timing was perfect since it was Memorial Day Weekend that we happened to be there. It had absolutely beautiful 360 degree views looking over the valley. There were flags that represented each branch of the military. There were a couple of specific memorials that we talked through with the boys and we read some names and talked about the time in history that they fought and died. It was a very peaceful and somber place and I'm so glad that we stumbled upon it. I feel so blessed that we live in this country. Yes, it isn't perfect. There is crime and corruption but we are a blessed nation and there is still more good than bad. I want the boys to grow up with a love for their country and patriotism in their hearts.

Our room was in the barn on the property, which the boys thought was pretty cool. We had reservations that afternoon to swim in the swimming hole inside the crater on the property. It was something I had been looking forward to doing. It was such a unique experience and we weren't sure what to expect when we got there. The water was very warm and since we were all required to wear life jackets, it made it easy to float and relax. That was the highlight, and the coolest thing we did on the trip in my opinion.

That night we went to dinner at the resort across the street. Unfortunately it wasn't very good but since there were no chain restaurants, it were all about trying new places.

I had to put my camera away before I jumped in to join them but this was the best family picture I could get before I did that.
This was the picture that Logan made for us at dinner. Such a talented artist and thoughtful kiddo.
This is what the top of the crater looks like. They have nets and wire covering it in case something falls down because the swimmers are directly below.
