We woke up at 4:00 am (yes, I didn't think that existed on my clock!) and got everyone loaded in the truck and headed down to the Mesa airport for an 8:00 am departure. Within minutes of entering the airport, at about 6:30 am, we hear over the loud speaker that our flight has been delayed until 10:10 am. Are you kidding me!? We had just woken the boys up in the middle of the night for nothing!? Well it gets better. The next announcement said we were delayed until 10:30am. Then it was 11:00 am and we had to move to another gate in a different terminal. Next it was 11:30 but back at the original terminal, different gate. each time the announcement came shortly before the anticipated departure time so over a hundred people were moving around this airport on what felt like a wild goose chase.
Our boys did great considering the circumstances but it was a really long time for them to sit around a small airport. By about 11:45 as our flight was preparing to board, a swarms of bees had landed on the jet way of a neighboring plane. All boarding came to a halt while they figured out what to do about the bees. It was almost laughable. We had been delayed for over 4 hours, switched gates three times and had a swarm of bees about 50 feet from us outside. I felt like we were going to be on Candid Camera or that Ashton Kutcher was going to jump out and say you got Punk'd. We finally boarded the plane a little after noon. Luckily our flight was uneventful. Lincoln slept almost the entire time and Logan managed to hang in there.
We were so happy to see Aunt Natalee at the airport and head straight to Grandma Tutu's house. It was supposed to be a fun easy travel day but it didn't quite go as planned.
Lincoln got a little security sticker badge from airport security.
There was a grasshopper in the window the boys were watching. We were willing to take any type of entertainment after a few hours.
This picture doesn't do it justice. I had never seen a swarm of bees like this. It was pretty amazing. If you look at the black blob on the covering of the walkway you can see where they started to settle down.
This is the best way to fly. He was awake for take-off and landing. I couldn't have planned it better.
With Lincoln asleep, we only had to entertain Logan and it was pretty easy since there was both of us.
