Idaho Trip Day 11 - Boys

I was back to work on Monday so Ricky took the boys to the park for some time outside of the house. It was about 50 degrees though so we had to bundle up the boys.

After getting to the park Lincoln went right for the biggest slide. Another boy about four (he was bigger than Lincoln) started to get in Lincoln's face and yell at Lincoln to not follow him. Lincoln wasn't following him but the playground isn't huge so it was inevitable that Lincoln and this other little boy would end up in the same place. Again the little boy yelled at Lincoln and Ricky intervened telling the little boy to not worry about Lincoln, he wasn't followings him. Both boys proceeded down the slide. at the bottom of the slide, for a third time, the Lincoln boy yelled in Lincoln's face. As Rick explains it, next thing he knew Lincoln charged the boy and immediately punching him in his stomach. Rotating punches from left to right fist. Ricky said it was like he was watching a little boxer go at it. Ricky immediately went down the slide with Logan in his arms to stop the fight. Thankfully both boys were uninjured. The other little boys mom (who was no where to be found when this was all happening) emerged from the bushes on the other side of the park to ask if he son was being mean. Luckily she packed her kids up and left so that our boys could enjoy the playground in peace.

When Ricky returned home he told me our son got into his first fist fight. Of course I was concerned. Honestly, I did laugh a bit too. Lincoln has no fear but it looks like we have some work to do. We had a talk with him that he needs to use his words instead of fighting. I don't want my sons to fight but I also don't want them to be bullied. I think its a fine line when they're young and the kids personalities have a lot to do with it, along with how you teach them. It's clear to me my little guy is growing up and we will be facing different challenges as he gets older. I hope I will be able to teach him and guide him to be a great kid and eventually a successful and productive member of society.
