Ricky observed a little girl doting over Lincoln at school today. She stared into Lincoln's eyes as if to say I will love you forever. She held his hand, and then kissed it. She insisted that she sit by Lincoln during the cookie decorating activity. Unfortunately her name (and assigned seat) weren't next to his so she was moved across the room. At one point she shouted from the other side of the room, "Lincoln, you are my best friend in the whole world that I ever had!" Ricky stood there perplex and utterly confused as to how to react or respond to this "relationship."
After they came home from school and told me about the day, I got the scoop from Ricky about this interaction between Hailey and Lincoln. I decided to find out more from Lincoln.
Me: "Lincoln, tell me about Hailey."
Lincoln: "I don't want to talk about her."
Me: "Is she your girlfriend?"
Lincoln: "Yes."
Ricky: "Do you love her?"
Lincoln: "Sometimes."
At this point we couldn't help but bust up laughing. We tried to ask another question before we were quickly given the hand. Yep, our 4 year old put up the "talk to the hand" sign because he didn't want to talk about his girlfriend. Hailey might be his first little girlfriend. Ricky and I just laughed. It's so cute yet so disturbing when we think of what's to come when he's older. Those pretty blue eyes might cause a few hearts to break along the way.
