Happy Birthday Logan!

My baby boy turned three!  Some days I wonder how three came so quickly and other days I look at him and tell myself he's only three. I know there's sort of a bitter sweet feeling that comes when your kids grow up.  For me, it's more sweet than bitter.  I have to admit that I think they get cuter, more fun and definitely more difficult as they get older but I'm enjoying the different relationship and fun things the older age brings.

Logan is Mr. Independent...well sometimes.  If mom and dad are around he's got a lot of confidence, he's feisty, thinks he can ignore us and runs the world. I think a lot of that comes from just being three. If we say we are going to leave him (like if he isn't listening and is walking away) then he freaks out and runs back to us.  Logan is very smart and has a good sense of humor.  He loves to laugh and get a laugh out of others.  He does have a softer side too.  He likes to cuddle and I love rocking him before bed.

I feel like the last six weeks have brought a lot of little milestones and changes that have really made us feel like he's growing up.

  • Sleep: He's finally sleeping past 6:00 am!!  For the last month he's been sleeping in until 7:00 or 7:30.  I've been waiting for this for a long time.  I hope it lasts.
  • Potty Training: He's also officially potty trained!  He's done a really good job of telling us when he needs to go potty and we haven't had an accident for weeks!  This also means we've been able to get away with no diaper bag.  We just take a back up for the car, just in case.
  • Milk:  We went from soy to regular milk several months ago.  Then we went from warm milk to cold a couple months ago.  We are at the point where he's having one sippy cup full of milk before bed or in the morning but not both.  He's actually eating breakfast instead.
  • Brother:  I've actually started to see him and Lincoln play together for more than a few minutes without breaking into a fight.  It's so nice to hear them play nicely together - especially if they're laughing.  It makes me smile.
  • Interests: Logan has not been one to play with toys.  At times it was quite frustrating because he always wanted to just do whatever we were doing, which is nice except when you need to accomplish something, but that's now changed.  He's finally started to play with toys, mostly trucks, trains and some Legos.  He's more interested in the ipad though.
  • Ipad: This has become a life saver for me.  Logan used to use the ipad for games but now he's expanded.  His new favorite use for the ipad is now to view car washes on youtube.  Also when we go out we use it to let him watch cartoons or to listen to music.  The ipad was technically mine but it's been taken over by Logan.
  • Favorites Include:
  • TV Show: Bubble Guppies and SpongeBob (don't judge me)
  • Music: Maroon 5 - One More Night, he also likes the Primary song Wise Man and Foolish Man.
  • Food: Sugar.  Anything related to sugar.  Logan is a fairly good eater.  He's just started to eat cereal and milk.  He's not really a fan of many types of meat, although he does well with beef. He likes the typical kids food like pizza, grilled cheese, mac & cheese and he loves fruit.
  • Activities:  He loves to ride bikes and just be outside. His preference is anything physical like running, jumping on the trampoline or wrestling.
  • Fears:  Logan is generally a fearless kid except that we recently discovered he has a fear of heights.
  • Clothes: Logan is a nice solid build.  He isn't chunky but not slim either.  He fills out his 3T pants and 4T shirts nicely.
  • Car Washes: I don't know if it's a favorite or an obsession but it's all he talks about these days.  He knows where every car wash in our city is located and if it's big or small.  He knows about the blowers, the spinners, soap machines, etc.  He compares things to car washes - like when I was decorating a fake Christmas tree and was spinning it to put lights on.  He quickly made the comparison to the spin washers at the car wash.  He asks daily to go and see the car washes and often throws a fit when we say no.  He quickly gets over it when we tell him he can go home and watch them on youtube. It's our compromise.
I'm very grateful for Logan.  It's not easy living life everyday with a three year old but we love him so much and he is a special part of our family. It has been fun to watch him grow and develop to the little guy that he is. I look forward to all that is yet to come with him.

Who doesn't love that happy face.
Listening contently to music on the ipad.
This is Lincoln's bike but Logan has taken it over.

We love you sweet boy!
