Trafalgar Square & St. Martin-in-the-Fields

Trafalgar Square is considered the heart of London.  It is a very busy city center that was filled with ideal people watching opportunities. At the head of the square sits the National Gallery and the other end of the square provides an amazing view straight down to Big Ben. We took the opportunity to enjoy several street performers and photo ops with the huge blue rooster and the enormous lions.

One of our favorite parts of our visit to Trafalgar Square was a stop in St. Martin in the Fields. It is a church built in the 1720's with a Gothic spire atop a Greek-style temple. They are known for the great music that is produced and played there. We were lucky enough to catch an afternoon rehearsal of the orchestra playing Vivaldi's Four Season's. It was so nice to sit, relax, listen and take a break from the busy hustle and bustle of the city.

After our visit in the square we toured the National Gallery. There are some very famous paintings housed there including work by Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Monet. We saw the famous Sunflower paintings by Van Gogh. For someone who doesn't get overly excited about paintings it was still very exciting and neat to see first hand.

We ate lunch at a place called California Burritos & Tacos.  It's essentially like Chipotle excited they serve warm coke in a can.  Everything else was quite delicious. Guacamole was very hard to find in England so it was nice to get some and it reminded me of home.
