We arrived first thing Monday morning to Nassau. Our day started with a boat ride to a half submarine type boat that was already situated in the ocean near a coral reef. The boys loved the speed boat and were excited to get into the bottom portion of the sub-like boat. It really did feel like we were in a submarine. We saw quite a few fish, probably six or so different types and we also saw a turtle. After about thirty minutes of being down below, Logan started to get sea sick. I went up top with him where he was able to get fresh air and still see some fish and the turtle. He was mad that he was sick so he said, “that boat is dead to me.” I just had to laugh even though I felt so bad that he was sick. Thankfully once we got back to land, got an icee drink in a carved out coconut, and walked for a bit, he began to feel better.
Since we still had a few hours before All-Aboard call with the Allure, we decided to take a short ten- minute walk to the beach. I figured there was no way we were going to be in the Bahamas and not get into the crystal clear water via the white sand beach. The boys were so quick to jump in. I was a bit more of a wimp because the water was colder than I had expected but I eventually got wet up to my shoulders. We swam for about an hour and the boys collected shells. It was absolutely beautiful ocean. We didn’t get to see too much of the island other than the multi-million homes of the rich and famous and some of the old down town.
While we were walking to the beach, there are tons of locals trying to see you merchandise, taxi rides and drinks. It didn’t bother me but it was definitely a new experience for the boys. The boys also noticed that the steering wheels in the cars are on the left and right side of the car. Ricky and I noticed that they drive on the opposite side of the road than we do in the States. Lincoln said to me, “this place is a lot different than the United States.” That is exactly why I like to travel with my kids. I think it’s so important for them to have new adventures, see how others live, experience different cultures (food, entertainment, dialects, etc.) so I was proud when we was taking it all in and making the comparison of what he was experiencing to what he is used to back at home. Proud parent moment that makes it all worth it.
The boys got their first stamp in their passports – Nassau, Bahamas. They are pretty lucky. None of us had been to the Caribbean before so it’s been great to experience it all together as a family.
