Utah and Idaho Trip

November was a jammed packed busy month for us. Just two days after getting home from our CA trip, I headed up to Utah with the boys. We were going to attend a Live-Right company party in Salt Lake City in the 14th and then drive to Inkom, ID that night so that we could attend church for Tutu's mission farewell on Sunday. Rick was already scheduled to attend a Joel Grimes photography workshop at the Wigwam that weekend. I was excited to take the boys and make a fun trip of it.  We packed all kinds of snacks and fun things to do on the airplane and at the hotel. The boys were excited to fly on a plane, see their cousins and have an adventure!

We flew in on Friday night. The flight went well and the boys did great. We got our rental car and drove to a party that Tutu's were having in SLC for their friends and family before their mission. We got there right at the end and had a nice short visit with everyone. On the way back to the hotel, the boys insisted in stopping at Taco Bell to pick up food to take to the hotel.  Both boys ordered nacho supreme but Lincoln got his without sour cream.  It was about 30 minutes after eating their nachos that Logan told me his stomach was sick.  I gave him a Pepto and sent him to bed. It was about 11:30 that night that Logan began throwing up.....all over the bed in the hotel room.  I quickly put him into the shower and called for room service. My poor baby was crying and afraid.  He has only thrown up less than a handful of times in his life and was scared and not sure what was going on.  He then threw up every thirty minutes until 5:30 am Saturday morning. I was running out of things for him to throw up in. We were in the hotel room so I was trying to be as creative as I could. I eventually woke up Lincoln, who had slept through everything that happened during the night, and dressed them for a trip to the hospital. I was worried that Logan was dehydrated because he couldn't keep anything down and he had been barfing for six hours.

We got to the Intermountain ER (I knew it was there because a couple years ago we took Lincoln there for stitches in his chin) and they immediately took us in to a room. Thankfully it wasn't too far from our hotel.  After going through check in procedures they quickly gave him anti-nasea medicine and some ibuprofen.  He was finally able to get a little sleep.  They had determined that he was battling food poisoning from the sour cream.  His heart rate was increased due to dehydration so the goal was to get him to keep some liquids and a popsicle down.  About 7:30 am we texted Tutu to come and get Lincoln because he was bored. Once he realized Logan was going to be okay, he was fine to leave.  Tutu's picked him up and he spent the day with them while I stayed at the hospital with Logan until we were finally discharged at 11:30 and went to the hotel for a nap.

That night we made a brief appearance at the Live-Right company party and then headed to bed at the hotel instead of driving to Idaho. We were going to see how Saturday night went before we committed to driving to Inkom. Luckily we had a great night, got a lot of sleep and had no throw up.  Sunday morning we got up early, packed the car and headed to Idaho.  We made it in time for church where all the grandkids sang a song for Tutu in sacrament meeting.  After church we spent a few hours playing at Tutu's with all the cousin while there was an open house for family and friends. About 4:00 pm we started our drive down to the SLC airport to catch our flight that night.  The flight was a bumpy one and it was late so the boys ended up sleeping about the last 30 minutes.  We were the last to deplane and Logan woke up not feeling well.  On the jetway he said his stomach hurt so I immediately grabbed my disposable barf bag that I had gotten at the hospital and put it in front of him just as he began to throw up.  That was a mom-win.  I felt so bad that after a pretty good day he was now back to barfing.  We cleaned him up, gave him some more medicine and headed out to meet Daddy who was picking us up at the curb.

Logan had a rough night so we kept him home from school the next day and he slept until noon.  For a kid that never sleeps, it was a sign that his body needed some more recovery time and it was a good thing we kept him home. Rick felt bad that this all happened when he wasn't there but we survived and made it through. I felt bad because we were really looking forward to a great adventure day at the mall, movies and Chuck E Cheese but none of that happened. I am glad that we were able to make it to Idaho to be with the family for Tutu's farewell, which was the important part of the trip.

Moral of the story is...no more Taco Bell....ever....!!!
Loan colored this little wooden bumble bee on the plane.
Lincoln was a big boy and sat across the isle from Logan and me and played his iPad with Teddy the entire flight.
Yes, he's holding the hotel ice bucket. That's all we had at the time.
This was a rare picture of him awake at the hospital.  He was so exhausted from throwing up and no sleep through the night that once he got medicine in him, he slept most of the time.
He let the first popsicle melt because he was afraid to eat it. A few hours later, he was willing to try it and was able to keep it down.
This was shortly before they discharged us.
Lincoln went to breakfast, shopping and watched a movie with Tutu's. These are a few pictures of his day.

On our way home in the Delta terminal at SLC airport.
I packed so light since it was a quick trip and just me with the boys but since Logan threw up all over his last outfit at the hospital, Tutu picked up a cozy outfit for him to wear home on the plane.
This is Joel Grimes. He is the professional photographer that Ricky hosted the workshop Ricky attended.
