Originally I was going to make it a surprise for Ricky but I eventually had to tell him. This is why...I ended up needing foot surgery. It so happens to be for a ton of reasons that it was best to have that surgery at the end of December. Unfortunately, it was the day before we were supposed to go to the concert. Also, our ward happened to schedule the Christmas party on December 1st...same night as the concert. Good luck trying to get a babysitter. I ended up telling Ricky and his advice was to give the tickets away. He didn't think we should go given the doctor said I was supposed to be down for the first 72 hours post surgery. Well, I wasn't going to let this opportunity get past us again and I told him we'd make it work. I never did find a babysitter so my sweet friend Lisa offered to let us drop the boys off at her home (which worked well because she's like 15 minutes from the arena) and the boys could play with Dylan and Sadie which are the same ages as our kids.
Ricky dropped me off right outside the arena and I sat on a bench while he parked. Luckily the arena was flexible with us and once we explained the situation (like I wasn't going to be able to go upstairs or squeeze my way down a very tiny row of stadium seats, they upgraded our tickets to the lower level and gave us wheelchair seating. We were near the front of the line got right inside by using my crutches and then I a wheelchair ride to my seat. They even brought me an extra chair to put my foot up on. Ricky was super sweet and filled my ice pack so that I could ice 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off as the doctor ordered.
The concert started right at 8:00 and lasted until 10:40. There was no opening band - they just jumped right into the show and I couldn't believe how long it was. It was a fantastic show. The lights and sound were amazing. It's so fun for me to watch Ricky in that kind of setting really taking it in and enjoying it. We had such a great time and I'm glad we were able to make it work. It was a great way to start the holiday season!
